Appearing Powerful

In Deb Gruenfeld’s book, Acting with Power: Why We Are More Powerful Than We Believe, she discussed the advice for appearing more powerful by imagining you are wearing a crown or headdress. Try it.

Pick something to imagine placing your head that is powerful for you.

  • Can you feel the confidence and power from your imaginary headgear?

  • Did your posture improve? Mine did as I was writing this.

  • Do you find it easier to respect yourself when you imagine wearing something powerful?

  • Is it easier for you to act with dignity?

  • Is it easier for you to believe you are deserving and destined for great things?

  • Do you find yourself moving and breathing more slowly?

Many people also have a favorite item they wear or carry with them that makes them feel more powerful. Do you have anything you have used in the past?
