Seek to Understand

Thought for the week: Listen/Seek to Understand

I’m rereading Thanks for the Feedback, The science and art of receiving feedback well*

*even when it is off base, unfair, poorly delivered, and, frankly, you’re not in the mood by Douglas Stone and Sheila Heen.

I’ve been thinking about how helpful it is to pause, listen, and seek to understand not only what the other person is saying, but why they are saying it. Often the intention of a communication does not match its impact.

I hope you have a great Fourth of July!
